St. Monica’s College of Education serve as a centre of excellence for training teachers for the basic schools and inculcate in the products academic, spiritual and humanistic values which make them effective role-models in the country. The vision of the college is to become one of the best colleges of education in Ghana with the aim to produce God-fearing, honest, hardworking and responsible teachers capable of effectively playing their roles as future leaders in the development of our dear country Ghana. He took over from the previous head, Mrs Christina Sobotie who had been in post since 2010. His picture is attached here. and it enrolls 470 level 100s, 469 level 200 and 407 level 300, a grand total of 1346. St Monica’s College of Education currently run 30 classes with average classroom occupancy rate of 45 per class and ages of students are within the range of 18 to 25 years. After completion of the 3-year diploma in Basic Education Programme, students are posted to basic schools within the Country.
Special Attainments of the College
St Monica’s College of Education as an institute excels in diverse ways. The College placed first in the Female Category during the 14th Ashanti/Brong-Ahafo (ASHBA) Zonal Sports Festival held in April 2016. McJoy Advertising Company in collaboration with Academic Diary News Paper conferred on the Principal, a meritorious award in recognition of tremendous transformation in St. Monica’s College of Education on 20th February 2017.
Current Needs of the College
In order to promote quality teaching and learning, the College intends refurbishment of its Science and Mathematics Resource Centres with adequate Teaching and Learning materials for research and effective lesson delivery. The College is putting up a 4-storey 16 Unit Lecture Hall through its Internally Generated Fund (IGF). The project is currently at the roofing stage and requires GH¢120,000.00 (£22,223.00) for roofing of the structure.
